History

The Gwalior academy of Mathematical Sciences was launched in March –1994 by Professor Vinod P.Saxena as its founder president in the presence of Prof.A.H.Siddiqui,A.M.U. Aligarth with a view to promote teaching and research activities in mathematics.Since then it has been endeavoring to achieve its objectives of upliftment of mathematics by organizing annual  conferences,workshops,seminars and publishing news and researchjournals.

 

The first annual conference of academy was held at School of Mathematics and Allied Sciences(SOMAAS),Jiwaji University ,Gwalior on September 17th 1995.In this conference the first S.K.D.Gaur Memorial lecture was delivered by Prof.G.C.Sharma of Agra University .Prof . H.C.Khare ,of Allahabad University who Ex-President of Indian Mathematical Society ,inaugurated the conference.Another distinguished speaker in this conference was eminent computer scientist Prof.Karmeshu of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

 

The academy also organized a lecture of eminent mathematician Prof.A.P.Verma from Surat,which was cosponsored by Indian Mathematical Society.The Academy Co-Sponsored the Fourth International Conference on  Physiological Fluid Dynamics,held at Jiwaji University during December 1995.The conference was of three days duration in which delegates from all over the world participated.Narosa ,New Delhi,published the proceedings of this conference under the title 'Advances in Physiological Fluid Dynamics'.

 

The second annual conference of the academy was held at Govt.Girls P.G. College Morar(Gwalior) on September 15th ,1996.The conference was inaugurated by Prof.P.K.Jain from Delhi University who also delivered the second S.K.D.Gaur memorial lecture .Eminent Scientist Prof. Y.P.Yoganathan,Atlanta(U.S.A) and Prof.M.Saleem,Bundelkhand University delivered  other important lectures.The lectures covered the field of Bio-Engineering and  Modeling.In addition to this the participants also presented research papers.

 

A three week instructional conference on “Mathematical Modelling in Ecology and Medicine" was held at SOMMAS, Jiwaji University ,Gwalior from March 28 to April 17,1997 under the auspices of GAMS and Department of Science Technology, New Delhi. Prof . H.P.Dixit ,Vice-Chancellor,Bhoj Open University ,Bhopal inaugurated the conference.Besides local resource persons several distinguished speakers including ,Prof.J.B.Shukla ;Prof G.C.Sharma,Prof . R.D.Agrawal. Prof.B.Rai, Prof.A.K.Govila, Dr.B.R.Shrivastava, Prof.Manju Pandey and Dr.K.R.Pardasani addressed the conference.The deliberation covered modeling in Ecology ,Population Dynamics,Mathematical Epidemiology,Stochastic Modelling,Modelling in Blood Flow,Opthamlolgy and Burns and Cold Injuries in Skin and Subcutaneous Tissues, to name a few.The program also included training in Computer Programming through C-language.The valedictory function ,held on April 16,1997 was graced by the auspicious presence of renowned mathematician Prof.J.N.Kapur,as chief guest and Prof.K.K.Tiwari former Vice Chancellor as special guest. Prof.R.R.Das Vice-Chancellor ,Jiwaji University presided over the function.

 

The third annual conference of academy was held at Govt.Science College,Gwalior on November 14,1997.In this conference the third S.K.D . Gour memorial lecture was delivered by Prof.B.S.Yadav (Delhi University).Other important lectures were delivered by eminent mathematicians Prof.R.D.Agrawal(Vidisha),Prof.J.B.Shukla(IIT Kanpur),Prof.P.N.Shrivastava(Jhansi) and Prof. K.R.Pardasani(Bhopal).The research papers were also presented by the participants .

 

Apart from this,Gwalior Academy of Mathematical Sciences continued to publish regularly its news bulletin and the research Journal of the Academy entitled GAMS Journal of Mathematical Biosciences.In this Journal the editorial board comprised of Scientist from various countries likes Canada,USA,UK,Australia,China,Spain,Argentina besides India.There are 25 members in the editorial board.The first issue of this journal was released at the 8th International Congress of Biomathematics on 27th August 1997 at Panama.The Journal includes the research articles of various eminent mathematician from abroad as well as from India.The Second issue of this Journal was released during 5th annual conference of GAMS,held at Govt.P.G.College ,Guna.

The fourth annual conference of academy was held at DRDE,Gwalior on july 31,1999.In this conference Prof.M.A.Pathan of Aligarh Muslim University delivered fourth S.K.D. Gaur Memorial lecture .The conference was inaugurated by Prof.J.B.Shukla,I.I.T.Kanpur.Another guest of honour in this conference  was Dr.K.M.Rao ,Associate Director of DRDE,Gwalior. Alongwith the conference a symposium on “Mathematical Modelling and a Computer Applications in High altitude Physiological problems with a Special Reference to Defence" was also organized .The topic of the symposium was centered on the problems faced by our army persons in Kargil

The fifth Annual conference of the Academy was held at Govt.P.G.College,Guna on May 21,2000. The conference was inaugurated by Mr.Kailash Narayan Sharma ,Guna,and Prof.R.R.Das, the then Vice-Chancellor.Jiwaji University ,presided over the inaugural function.Prof.V.P.Saxena,Gwalior,delivered the fifth S.K.D.Gaur Memorial lecture.

The Sixth Annual conference of GAMS held at the School of Mathematics and Allied Sciences ,Jiwaji University ,Gwalior on Feb.25,2001 and that was inaugurated by veteran mathematician Prof.J.N.Kapur. Other invited speakers included eminent mathematicians like Prof.J.B.Shukla,Prof.M.A. Pathan and Dr. K.R.Pardasani .On the occasion of Ramanujan’s Birthday a Quiz on Mathematics was also organized at various colleges of Jiwaji University for school children .The Rotary club of Gwalior cosponsored this quiz.

 

The Seventh Annual Conference of the Academy was held at Maharana Pratap College of Technology ,Gwalior on April 25,2002.The conference was inaugurated by distinguished mathematician Prof.G.C.Sharma, Prof.R.C.S.Chandel, Prof.Sunderlal and Dr.Rashmi Bhardwaj(Delhi) delivered invited lectures.

 

The eighth conference was organized at Govt.P.G.College ,Datia and was inaugurated by Prof.Bindyachal Rai of Allahabad University.

 

In view of the growing interest of research scholars as well of senior mathematicians,the duration of organization of annual conferences was extended by involving interdisciplinary areas from the ninth annual conference held ,at ITM Group of Colleges ,Sitholi,Gwalior during January 19-20,2004 .This conference was attended by Scientist like Prof.G.Jayaraman,IIT Delhi ,Prof.Karmeshu ,JNU , Prof.P.K.Suri,Kurukshetra University .Prof.A.R.Rajwade ,Punjab University ,Prof.V.K.Katiyar,IIT Roorke and Prof.K.R.Pardasani,MANIT Bhopal.The topic of the symposium in this conference was on Mathematical Modeling and Computer Applications in Biological and Atmospheric Sciences.

 

In this same year 2004 ,a national workshop was co-sponsored by GAMS along with Ramanujan Mathematical Society.This workshop was on Financial and Biological mathematics.In this workshop speakers like Prof.A.H.Siddiqui ,Saudi Arabia,Prof.P.Manchanda,Amritsar,Prof.B.Rai,Allahabad,Prof.A.B.Roy,Calcutta ,Prof.Phoolan Prasad,IISC Banglore,Prof.Vijay Kumar and Prof.P.Thangraj from Chennai and several others delivered invited lectures and organized panel discussions.The participants in this workshop arrived from abroad including Nepal ,USA and Bangladesh.

 

The tenth conference was organized by one of the premier women educational institution of North India i.e Kamla Rajaa Girls P.G.Autonomous College ,Gwalior on February 17&18,2005.Prof.M.K.Singhal ,Prof. Asha Rani Singhal ,Prof.D.P. Agrawal ,Prof.J.B.Shukla ,were amongst those who addressed the conference.

 

A new dimension was added to the activities of the academy in the year 2005 when it co-sponsored a three days workshop on Bio-informatics and a Biomathematics .The response of participants was overwhelming .The hands – on training on computers was provided.

A BRIEF REPORT OF ELEVENTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

 

               11th annual conference of Gwalior Academy of Mathematical Sciences and National Symposium were organized at Jaypee Institute of Engineering and Technology, GUNA, from April 22nd to 23rd 2006.The conference was inaugurated on 22nd April 20, 2006 at 11 am by Professor M. N. Faruqui, an eminent scientist and former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. Professor V. P. Saxena, President of GAMS, presided over the inaugural function, while Professor N. J. Rao, Director JIET welcomed the chief guest and delegates. Professor D. S. Hooda organizing sectary of the conference proposed the vote of thanks.

 

              About 50 delegates from different states participated in the conference and had deliberations and discussions on various topics of mathematics and computational methods applicable to engineering and technology. Three plenary and five-invited lecture sessions were organized in which eminent mathematicians and scientist delivered very informatory lectures. One plenary speaker was Professor Satya Mishra who had hailed from USA. About 35 papers were presented in 6 contributed paper sessions. Professor P. K. Sharma, Head of school of mathematics Ahilya Bai University, Indore, delivered S K Dey Gaur memorial lecture. Prof. Sunil Datta, former Head of mathemaics department of Lucknow University was another plenary speaker. Prof. Renu Jain, Prof. D.S.Hooda, Prof. K.R.Pardasani, Dr. Rajiv Saxena and Dr. R.C.Chakraborty delivered invited lectures.

                

             The most attractive event of the conference was Kavi Sammelan, which was organized on the advice and blessings of Shri Jaiprakash Gaur ji on 22nd April 2006 to entertain the delegates and residents of the campus. In Kavi Sammelan six prominent poets namely.Ashok Chakardhar, Mrs Bageshwari Chakardhar, Om Vyas, Partap Faujdar. Pawan Dikshit, Prit Govind presented their poems and songs to entertain the audience. The valedictory function of the conference was held at 5 pm on 23rd April under the chairmanship of Prof. N.J.Rao, Director of JIET. Prof. V.P. Saxena was the chief guest who distributed the certificates to the Plenary and Invited speakers. Prof. K.K.Jain, Dean (academics), proposed the vote of thanks.
